Alfred E. Townsend
Alfred E. Townsend is the founder and President of Training and Management Consulting Group, Inc. (TMC Group). Over the past seventeen years he has worked with investment firms, banks, and insurance companies around the world to help them to become more competitive in their markets and to improve the quality of their business. His primary focus has been to work with client organizations to develop their business strategies and to provide training that enhances their sales practices and creates stronger, more profitable business. To this end, Mr. Townsend has consulted with the leadership/management of numerous financial services firms to develop and implement their business strategies and he has trained over 15,000 financial services professionals to enhance and expand their knowledge and skill sets to successfully execute against those strategies.
Recent activities include:
- Consulted with a major Canadian mutual fund company to develop a strategic plan and sales process to gain market share across all the markets they served. This included the creation and implementation of a two-year professional development program for sales management, wholesalers, internal sales support, and client services personnel. As a result, the company was rated the number one wholesaling firm in Canada.
- Created and facilitated product knowledge and business development training for a new wealth management program for 800 employees (managers, private bankers, and customer service representatives) of one of America’s largest super-regional banks.
- Provided consulting and training services to a domestic bank to develop a more robust investment management program and to implement a comprehensive wealth management business strategy with its domestic and international client base.
- Developed a comprehensive training curriculum for Australia’s largest national bank to help them transition to a client-focused sales culture.
- Created and facilitated customized training for investment advisors and bank relationship managers to effectively present and sell their proprietary asset allocation and portfolio optimization methods and techniques to clients.
Mr. Townsend has had a successful and diverse career in the financial services industry that has allowed him to acquire a valuable and unique perspective on the business. Prior to founding TMC Group, he spent six years as a top performing retail investment advisor, three years as an institutional broker, two years as the senior vice president and national sales manager for a national brokerage firm, and two years as principal and head of marketing and sales for a national independent broker/dealer with 400 registered financial advisors. As a result of the knowledge and experience gained during the first 13 years of his career, he was able to develop the strategy, methodology, and training that have been used successfully with TMC Group's clients over the years helping them to reach their goals.
